I called insurance and they said they do not need SS for insurance it is for collection purposes.

Went in for an appointment, it was a referral. The office demanded my SS to be seen saying it was for insurance purposes. Only give your social to the IRS or your employer!

Then the receptionist said yes it's to make sure we get paid. If you want to see the Dr you must pay yourself.

I left they lied and totally got the impression they only care about the money. The receptionist had a snarky smirk on her face like she really enjoyed intimidating people.
